This week, 6 million dollars was the key to everything. First up, Dan Brown won the court case brought against him by Micheal Baigent, and Richard Lee. They were suing Random House, (but really Brown) saying that Brown had copied the premise for his international super hit bestselling Da Vinci Code, from their less than great and not best selling Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Justice prevailed, and their claims were denied. They now owe over 6 million dollars in legal fees, which is a good price for them to pay, in my opinion.
Second, more big book news. The cover of the seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released on the Today show this week. This is the last step before the book is released later this summer, in July. It depicts Harry and Voldemort in a large amphitheatre type place, presumably surrounded by Death Eaters. Neither of them have their wands, but both have their arms raised towards an unseen object above. Speculation abound, nothing is certain. The book is set to be released July 21, a mere week after the 5th Potter movie premiers. It is already, however, the Number 1 Best seller on Barnes and Noble’s online site.
Next, after 2 weeks at the top, 300 was bumped to the number 2 spot by the new Ninja Turtles movie, TMNT. TMNT won the spot by just under 6 million dollars.
In music news, Good Charlotte released their new album, Good Morning Revival, this week. It was well received. I personally really enjoyed it. It was nice and punk-ish, but not too mainstream for it to be nasty… Also, Modest Mouse released their new album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
Finally, Oprah announced the book she will put stickers all over this month. The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, will be her next book club selection. Luckily, I purchased and read the book a while after Christmas, so no Oprah sticker will blemish the cover of my copy. Good luck to the rest of you!
